Guidelines to prepare for an ACT exam

ACT, which stands short for American College Test, is a standardized college test that helps applicants to compare different schools according to their personal test score. Like SATs, this test is slowly gaining equal popularity in India. Although, factors like high GPA, academic transcripts, and letter of recommendation also counts but a good ACT score can definitely brighten your prospects of landing up in a good college. In case you are preparing for an ACT exam, here are few cues for you.

Prepare efficiently

Once you have finally decided to take the ACT test, start as soon as possible. Consult some overseas education consultants and start preparing right from your high school if possible. In comparison to SATs, ACTs are course specific. This test is especially designed for students who are interested in pursuing science as a main subject in college. We suggest you give special attention to science, mathematics, and English to nail this exam.

Focus to improve your mistakes

Get a bunch of practice papers and do them regularly. After doing a paper or two, you will get hold of your strengths and weakness. Analyze all of your answers and figure out what areas is your weak zone. Drill down the topics that you need to pay more attention to. If you wish you can also join an ACT test prep course to improve your performance.

Pay attention to the timing

You might be pro at a particular subject and may have mugged all the questions about the test but there is no point in doing all this if you cannot keep up with the timing. While practicing the test papers, note down how much time you take to answer all the questions. This will help you a lot in your final exam. Right hold at timing can help you score better in the paper.

Skip the difficult questions

No matter how hard you would have prepared for the course, there are a few questions that no student knows. Skip those difficult questions and move on. Know that timing is everything in an ACT exam and you should tabulate everything accordingly. Don’t brood over a question for too long. Once you are done with the entire question paper, recheck all the questions that you have answered and then move onto those questions that you find a bit difficult.
